Monday Madness Randomly Me

Today was one of those days. You know where you have a million things to do and it seems you get absolutely none of it done.
Here's how mine started out, I got up this morning with the intent of being on the road by 9 a.m. to get my Holiday shopping done.., well at 8 a.m. I  sat down on the couch to snuggle with Madkat just for a few, and the next thing I know it 10:23 a.m. I fell a sleep sound a sleep. Ugh., so I hurried to get in the shower and get on the road by noon.

Noon, Really what is it with noon, I swear no matter how hard I try, I can't get out of the house before noon. I mean if I have an appointment I'm there and I'm early but when it's something I wanna get done forget it... Call me at 6 a.m. I may be ready by 9... :)

 Randomness...

What are coupons REALLY... I have them, I save them, I swear I'm gonna use them...but I seem to never leave home with them...

The weather really... I never want snow, last year I didn't want any snow and what do we get...THIS...

This year I want snow lots of snow and what do I get 6o degree temperatures in November...Come ON, now... lol

The Dogs, what is it with dogs...I'm surrounded by bags of Groceries in the car and I know unloading them is gonna be a chore but I can't wait to get in the house and get it done... What do I walk into...
"TRASH lots of TRASH ...all over my kitchen floor..I threw away about 7 cupcakes before leaving to go shopping well my very cute and very Chubby black lab helped himself to all of them and what ever else he could find... NICE...

Then,Gunny Calls he never wants to chat, he's chatting, I'm surround by bags of groceries all over my dinning room and trash all over my kitchen floor...And today he wants to chat... SMILING... I ask "is there anything else really CAUSE I GOTTA GO"  Fine, Fine he says...LOL..... still smiling...

And what is it with the radio...are they boycotting Christmas, because if so they are the only ones, I mean Christmas was out at the stores before Halloween..but not one station AM or FM is playing Christmas music and I want Christmas Music...

CAN A GIRL GET SOME CHRISTMAS MUSIC AND SNOW......PLEASE... :)

PRETTY PLEASE...
Just a little random rambling on my day..now its time to crash on the couch for a few with a Pumpkin Spice Steamer...Yummo...

Christmas Decorating

Here is what we have been up to all last week. This is a little of the Living Room and Dining Room.
I was really disappointed to have to put up colored lights on the Living Room tree, but all my white lights were dead and unfortunately with time I wasn't running all over town and Wal-Mart only had multicolored lights so, I went with a country Christmas this year verses a white Christmas with plaid that I wanted. The Dining room ended up with the plaid since I had just enough amber lights to do that tree. Gunny was thrilled about the loss in the Living Room since he is a huge fan of the multicolored lighting... :)

The Girls bedroom is my absolute favorite with the White tree and pastel ornaments and lighting. Gunny would never be able to live in house full of white and pinks, but if I had my complete way, everything would be white and pastels... But I'm okay with the autumn look in our home all year around since those are my favorite colors but there is just something about white and cottage that I just love..
Here is the Girls tree all done up in Cottage Style.

I'd love to hear about your Christmas decorating if you have started leave me a comment or a link to what you have been up too...Happy Holiday's, Lisa Marie

Holiday Giveaway Winner

First thing this morning, I had my little Madkat draw a winner from the very full bag above. And the Winner is Pami22 from Aunt Pam's Closet   she will receive all the goodies in My Holiday Giveaway plus a little extra that I added. I emailed her today to let her know...Congrats....

Come back soon I will be doing a few other giveaways this month also...

I have been very busy the last week working on putting up all my Holiday Decorations for Christmas. Yes Christmas before Thanksgiving. I wanted to wait till 2 weeks before Christmas, but I just recently found out on the 15th of December my Mother has to have total knee replacement surgery. She loves my Christmas Trees and won't be able to make it here for Christmas this year so since they are always here for Thanksgiving, I put my Christmas Tree's up for her and the girls early this year.
I also decorated the outside of the house and Gunny strung Lights everything looks so pretty and with the little bit of snow that I woke up to this morning everything is beginning to feel like Christmas is on its way. I'll be back soon with lots of photos. Enjoy your Black Friday shopping I will be curled up with a good book, Lisa Marie...

The Gift of Reading

Once again the Christmas season is upon us, it seems to come sooner every year.  Christmas shopping can be such a struggle, what to give, what to buy, this toy, that toy? I find myself with that same struggle, but as my oldest daughter has started to progress away from toys, I feel stuck, really stuck with what to buy? Then I realized this year more then ever before I have enjoyed reading and found myself submersed in books more then ever, So why not give the Gift of Reading, reading is so important when they are little it helps entertain and educate your child at the same time. And as they grow it helps develop their much needed imagination. Set a good example for your child by not only reading to them every night before going to bed but make sure they see you involved in reading to. Your children seeing your love for a good book will help develop their love for reading too. Take time to shut of the TV and just read. If your children are older set aside an hour a day where they do nothing but read, during that time you do the same and if you have little children include them by reading to them also.

When reading to younger children here are some strategies for early literacy:
·         When reading a book with large print, point at each word as you read it. Your child will understand that the words being spoken are the words you are pointing to.
·         Read a favorite book to your children over and over again.
·         Read stories with rhyming words and have your child join in.
·         Read from a variety of books, including fairy tales, poems, and non-fiction.

My oldest daughter has a great love of reading and has been involved in reading a few series books for her age, and our four year old loves having the Berenstain Bears read to her.  I think the gift of a book is a wonderful gift that keeps on giving. Here are few series and books I recommend for different ages.

For 0-6 old
·        Early readers by, The Berenstain Bears any thing is the category is great.
·        The Berenstain Bears Save Christmas
·        Dr. Seuss just for the rhyming fun of the books it captures their imaginations.
·        Junie B. Jones Series
    For 7-10 years old
·        Diary of a Wimpy kid the series
·        Geronimo stilton Series
·        Scream Street Fang of the Vampire Series
For The Young Adult (Teenager)
·        The Twilight Series
·        Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick (if you loved the Twilight series this brand new set will have you none stop reading)
·        The Hunger Games by  Suzanne Collins
·        Catching Fire (The second book in the Hunger Games Trilogy) The Hunger Games is soon to be a movie too, and is an amazing read.

Give a Gift that keeps on giving, spark a love that will help with school and help your child to become a strong reader.

Pomegranates POM

I have been drinking the juice of this wonderful fruit for years but never ventured to eat one. Well the Cellist had a sleepover on Saturday and her girl friend had a baggy full of these little kernels or "arils" the fruit inside the Pomegranate, the girls loved them, so while shopping at Sam's Club on Saturday I picked up 4 for 7.88. Thank goodness they came with a little booklet with directions on how to prepare them for eating, seeing that I was clueless as to what to do with them.
Well let me say its a fruit you have to work for...wowwie, but oh so yummy once all the arils are removed, cleaned and strained  they are really delicious.

My mid-morning snack... They look like red kernels of corn but are sweet and juicy.

Check out POM's Website for more on these Delicious fruit and all its health benefits.

Free Christmas Tags

I used similar tags last year that I got free on the web but could not find them anywhere in my files. So I decided to make my own this morning, I whipped up these tags from my graphic art clips and add the song Jingle bells in print across the sillo image. They are yours free to use if you like for personal use only.
Last year at Christmas I made up bags of cookies for friends, used brown paper bags then layered pretty Christmas paper on the front with the tags on top. They turned out so cute...So here is a little freebie from me to you...L

Seasons Beauty Still Changing

While heading out to my parents house this weekend with my camera in tow, Gunny noticed this barn and I had to seize the beauty of it. I can't wait to go back when there is snow on the ground and capture it more as the seasons change. Here is the photo after having some fun in photoshop and using some textures from NinianLif .

Never leave home without your Camera...so much beauty all around..., L

Creamy Pea Soup for Two

One thing I have never ever like is Peas, really who likes Peas,,, Please....? Well I do, NOW, that is. I don't know what happened I was walking through the food section at Target last week and seen canned peas, Gunny loves Peas so I figured what the Hay, I'll buy some peas too. I had no clue what to do with them and I love to cook off the top of my Head.
So the next evening for dinner I made this quick little recipe for Creamy Pea Soup for Two. And guess what I loved it. Gunny said it was really good too, well I've never liked peas so I had to take his word for it...Can't beat it's so simple to make.

Creamy peas Soup for Two
  • 1 can of peas
  • enough milk to cover peas 1% or 2%
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of Sour Cream
  • Mrs. Dash Original Blend Seasoning Blend
  • Sea Salt
  • Pepper
So Simple drain all the water from the peas place them in a cooking pot. Cover peas with just enough milk that you can still see them...heat. Once nicely heated add your sour cream once that is fully mixed with the milk then add your butter and seasonings. Serve hot with a nice slice of bread with warm butter or your favorite crackers.
 Enjoy, L

Friday = Kidnapping ------------- Saturday=Movie

   Friday Kidnapping.....
So Friday night I'm standing in my kitchen watching something really gross unfold I will spare you the details. While my two daughters are play fighting with one of Gunny's Recruiters. The noise is loud, Gunny's project disgusting and my is Mind SCREAMING..."someone PLEASE SAVE ME NOW..." When the phone rings, the voice on the other end says "We are kidnapping YOU" my response "really I'm in my jammies"  then voice on the other end, "that's okay, it will make it more interesting"  Me, "Where are we Going?"  the response of my caller, "Don't know are you game"... Me, "Oh, YES...call me when your on Your way I'm throwing on some jeans and will be ready in a few"
Wow talk about the Law of Attraction I didn't but just finish the Please save me now sentence in my head when the phone rang...WaHoo... SAVED... I sat down the phone announced to the room, "I'm out here I'm being kidnapped" and ran for my room for jeans and blouse. No really, who gets excited about being kidnapped, Me of course, you know the desperate housewife, the one struggling to start a career, living a Military life, stuck at home 24/7 with 2 kids at each others throats all the time, two barking dogs, mounds of Laundry and house cleaning. That's who gets excited about a kidnapping.
Well of coarse, I'm only excited because my kidnappers are my Girlfriends Kari and Joy. And I delight in their company and conversation no matter where we go. Which on this night was back to our Local Mediterranean Restaurant for dessert and drinks. Where we talked, laughed, had a small bite to eat and closed the restaurant once again. These small moments of escape are like diamonds in the rough to me...Thank you ladies for another delightful evening.

  Saturday Movie and Review
So Saturday Afternoon, I sat off with my girls to go see A Christmas Story with Jim Carrey. I love the Story, I really couldn't wait to see this movie, I was just a little disappointed, the movie looked very real, I love digital graphic movies, I love the technology,...but it just felt like it was missing something, I wanted just a little more,  more beauty at the end. I loved the flying scenes, I felt like I was flying too, it was wonderful. I guess that will depend on how your theater is set up, we were directly in-front of the screen not down, looking up at the screen. I fully enjoyed the movie, just wanted a little more not sure what, you know just had that feeling that something was missing. My oldest daughter loved it, she's 11 and Madd who is 4 said it was scary but she like it anyway.
So would I suggest seeing the movie yes, it's a wonderful start to the holiday season, I'd give it 3.5 stars out of 5...

Hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend I know we did... enjoy all the moments capture as many as you can, L

Christmas Jars

It all begins with ONE jar. While browsing Christmas books at the bookstore yesterday, I seen this little book with a sparkling Jar on the front that caught my eye. Being a huge fan of Making Love Jars, a simple gift of giving a jar to someone decorated and filled with words of love. I just had to find out what this little book was all about. So as soon as I got home last night I settle in on the couch with this little 122 page book and didn't stop till finished. It's a beautiful story about a young aspiring writer Hope Jensen who receives an anonymous gift, a Christmas jar that leads her on a journey of discovery that so many people will be touched by. Discovering an amazing family with a heart of Gold and giving that will forever change her life and every reader that picks up this book.
I read this whole book without shedding one tear, not that I didn't feel the urge too, but that I held it back and trust me tears did fall. Before going to bed last night Gunny, who is not a reader asked me what was so great about this little book that I had to devour every word in one day. So I stood beside the bed telling him the heart touching story that I had read earlier in the day. As I was coming to the soul touching finales of the book I couldn't stop crying telling him how it all came together and how beautiful the ending was. I parted from the room to clean up my face and came back to tell him..."So did I tell how good this book was?"
Please if you see this book you just must pick it up, read it and pass on the beautiful tale to all you know. Word has it, this beautiful Christmas story is to be a Movie. One that I'm sure will become of favorite of all who read and watch it.  And you may just find yourself making a Christmas Jar or a Love Jar as provided in the video below.
Touch a heart share love where ever you go, L

P.S. there is a second book I'm going to pick up Called "Christmas Jar Reunion" picking up where the first left off.

Author Jason F. Wright talks about the Idea of a Christmas Jar.

The Hunger Games and Catching Fire

Well Last year at this time I was ripping through the Twilight Series, falling in Love with Edward Cullen. And getting Lost in the love Triangle of Edward, Jacob and Bella. I couldn't put the books down. I found Twilight very hard to get into but about half way through it I was hooked and had to finish the series.
After finishing up the series, I didn't read much I was consumed by the love story and just couldn't find anything to match it. Sure I read other books but nothing fictional. Then JennyKate and my girlfriend Kari both told me I needed to read The Hunger Games, Well Kari insisted I read it, that I'd love it. So I obliged and after 2 chapters I was hooked. The book is another amazing love story wrote for Young Adults but one that anyone can fall in love with, its full of action. Taking place after the world has fallen apart, went to war like nothing we have seen and started over with now 12 Districts and A Capital. A Capital bent on teaching everyone in the other districts a lesson they will never forget with The Hunger Games. A love story with 3 main leads, Katniss, Peeta and Gale...A must Read...
Copyright belongs to The Hunger Games
As soon as I finished up The Hunger Games I went out and purchased Catching Fire. I didn't get into it right away. Kids got sick, house work in-sued, and I hurt my back. But finally when I did I couldn't stop. I really loved this second book. I couldn't put it down, I started it and didn't stop till I was finished. The love story even better in the second book, the twist, the turns, I can't even give away a word it's that Good. And now saddened by the Fact that I have to wait till next year to read the third and Finale book sucks. But I'm glad I took the time to get to know the series, as word has it The Hunger Games will be a movie and should be out in 2011. If you have time and love a good Love Triangle, with Twist make sure to Check the the first two books in the Series The Hunger Games... have a beautiful day, L

Easy Breezy Holiday Steamers

Don't you just love the smell of a coffee shop, even better during the holiday season with all the yummy holiday specialty coffee's they offer. Unfortunately for me I'm not able to drink caffiene or eat chocolate. So I came up with some yummy steamers at home.  And they are so easy to make, not for the calorie concerned, unless its your calorie cheat day, then indulge.

                           Hot Holiday Steamers....

1 cup or coffee cup full of Steaming Hot 1 or 2% Milk
2 tablespoons of your favorite Holiday Coffee Creamer  (My favorite is Pumpkin Spice)
2 tablespoons of Caramel or Vanilla Coffee Syrup
2 or 3 tablespoons of Cool Whip
Cinnamon for sprinkling
After you add your steaming milk to your favorite coffee cup add your creamer and syrup stir well top with a couple tablespoons of Cool Whip and sprinkle on some Cinnamon...Enjoy

My New Writing Joy

I wrote an article for our local Marine Corps Family Newsletter about 2 months ago and it went over pretty well with the Command. Well since then I've been given my own column in the Newsletter...eeee
Here is my latest Article to appear:

                                                                  Finding Outlets
                                                               Your own creativity

I know being on Recruiting Duty with your spouse can leave you with lots of extra time on your hands. I’ve done the PTA thing and other local events. But in my spare time I found blogging to be a great outlet to meet other people, find my creativity, became a better photographer and cook. Through blogging I have met a lot of people who have been published in magazines or wrote there own cook books. I thought, I would include a small list of some great sites with lots of good tips, artist, mothers and photographers all staking a claim on the blogging world and finding an outlet of creativity.
If you are interesting in starting your own blog, I've found that http://www.blogger.com to be the easiest site to run a blog on free of charge or http://www.typepad.com another great source but a little more complicated to use and it also has a small fee, but they help promote your blog which is wonderful if you are looking at getting more followers.
If you are an artist and would love to make some extra cash for the holiday season selling just about any handmade item, I find Etsy to be a wonderful place to sell for a very small fee of only 20 cents per listing. I’ve been using Etsy for a few years now to sell handmade jewelry and really love the site.
But if you just want to check out some blogs, finds some great recipes and see what it’s all about or get a look at what blogging is:
One of my Favorites is Tidymomof2 her blog has lots of wonderful tips on just about everything and great links to other sites. She’s a personal friend of mine.
If photography is your outlet The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummon is wonderful and just recently published a cookbook. Her photography tips are a must have.
If you have an eye for all things beautiful Heather Bullards blog will be an eye candy treat. Her eye for detail and decorating is breath taking.
Saucy’s Blog out of Canada is a wonderful blog with lots of talent, movie reviews, cup cake recipes to droll over, and the coolest crafty ideas around.
All these women run beautiful blogs, on family, life and the love of blogging. Check them all out and see what it’s all about. Many of them have little give a ways and promotions. The blogging world is full of wonderful ideas and outlets. I’ve been blogging for a few years and just recently redid my whole blog and started over. I enjoy the outlet and getting to know other people all around the world.  Learning new things and meeting new people a wonderful outlet of stress relief and creativity.

Time For Snow...

                                                                   Photography by L
                                                         Layers by NinianLf on flicker
I can't believe the Beauty of Fall came and went so fast. We hardly had a spring and summer what was that. Here in the North East it was cold we barely had a beautiful summer it rained most of it. So I couldn't wait for Autumn I hoped it would be warm with a stunning display of color, I got the color but it sure wasn't warm...
So I say bring on the Snow, yep, I hate the white stuff I only want in for Christmas, but what the hey, I'm looking forward to snapping some breath taking shots of the cold stuff. I have a few places planned that I hope to make it to, to capture the beauty of the winter season.
So here a two of the shots I took of the Gorgeous Colors we had this Autumn that have soon disappeared with the rain taking its tool on the leaves and knocking them from the perch in the trees...
Enjoy the beauty everyday, L
